Newly Updated Guide to Practice and Procedure
The Tribunal has released the newly updated Guide to Practice and Procedure for the Waitangi Tribunal 2023. The Guide is a comprehensive practice note issued pursuant to clause 5(9) & (10) of Schedule 2 to the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975. The Guide provides practical direction on procedural aspects of the Tribunal, in the exercise of its jurisdiction as a standing commission of inquiry.
Following extensive consultation both internally and externally with key stakeholders, the Guide reflects the shift in direction of the Tribunal’s focus towards its Kaupapa Inquiry Programme and makes procedural changes that modernise and update its processes. The Tribunal thanks all those who took the time to provide feedback during the consultation phase. Your support and responses were critical to the completion of this work.
