For administrative and scheduling purposes, claims are divided into two groups: district claims and generic claims. District claims are those claims that relate to a particular land block or locality, while generic claims are claims that are not specific to any one area or that deal with matters of national significance. Examples of district claims are Wai 814 (Gisborne combined claims) and Wai 785 (Northern South Island combined claims), and examples of generic claims are Wai 150 (concerning the allocation of radio frequencies) and Wai 223 (concerning immigration policy).

To facilitate information flow, the Tribunal has established an extranet facility for claimants, counsel and others with a specific interest in active Waitangi Tribunal inquiries.   By applying to the Tribunal and outlining your reasons, a password may be allocated to enable access to detailed information relating to the specified inquiry/inquiries.  This facility will apply to the new approach inquiries only.

Contact us if you have any extranet enquiries
