New appointment to Māori Land Court bench

I am very pleased to announce the Minister for Māori development has confirmed the appointment of Alana Miriana Thomas as a permanent judge of the Māori Land Court. Judge Thomas is currently the Director at Kaupare Law and Consultancy and holds an LLB, BA from the University of Auckland. Judge Thomas has a strong interest in the retention, development and promotion of all aspects of te Ao Māori.


The date of the swearing in ceremony will be confirmed in due course and once sworn in she will be based in Wellington.

My congratulations, and congratulations on behalf of the Māori Land Court, to Judge Thomas. I look forward to us formally welcoming Judge Thomas as she begins her new journey as a part of the Māori Land Court bench.
