East Coast Settlement Report released

The East Coast Settlement Report is the outcome of an urgent Waitangi Tribunal hearing held in Wellington between 14 and 16 December 2009 into the Crown's recognition of Te Runanga o Ngāti Porou's (TRONP) mandate to negotiate and settle all historical Ngāti Porou Treaty of Waitangi claims. The Tribunal panel comprised Judge Craig Coxhead (presiding), the Honourable Sir Douglas Kidd, Kihi Ngatai, Tania Simpson, and Basil Morrison.

Wairarapa ki Tararua Report Released

The Waitangi Tribunal has today released its report on the Treaty claims of iwi and hapū of the Wairarapa ki Tararua district, which extends up the eastern side of the North Island from Cape Palliser to southern Hawke’s Bay. The principal iwi are Ngāti Kahungunu and Rangitāne.

Wai 894: Te Urewera Pre-publication Part I

On 9 April 2009, the Waitangi Tribunal released part I of its report into the Treaty claims of the iwi and hapu of Te Urewera district. The report is being released in parts at the request of the Crown and claimants, to assist them in settlement negotiations.

The Aotearoa Institute Claim Concerning Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Report

The Waitangi Tribunal today released its report on an urgent claim, Wai 1298, filed in September by Harold Maniapoto and Tui Adams on behalf of the Aotearoa Institute Te Kuratini o Nga Waka Trust Board, the parent body of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWOA). The claim alleged that the Crown had breached its Treaty of Waitangi obligations to the wānanga by undermining its rangatiratanga and effectively taking control of the institution. The inquiry into the claim was held at Te Rapa Racecourse in Hamilton earlier this month.
