Concerning: The claim concerns the failure of the Crown to provide for the healthcare of Māori in respect of the disproportionate number of Māori committing suicide and self-harm while in New Zealand prison and police custody. The claimant alleges that the Crown has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi by failing to look after Māori placed in the Crown’s care, including prison and police custody, and ensure that those Māori receive all the care and rehabilitation that they require including spiritual, cultural and mental health care.
