Statement of claim (SOC)

Sir Graham Latimer on behalf of himself and the hapū of Te Paatu; Haami Piripi on behalf of himself and the iwi of Te Rarawa; David Potter and Andre Paterson on behalf of themselves and the hapū of Ngāti Rangitihi; Michelle Marino and Errol Churton on behalf of themselves and the descendants of Tāringa Kurī; Russell Kemp on behalf of himself and the whānau, marae and hapū of Te Uri o Hau; and Cletus Maanu Paul on behalf of himself and the Mataatua District Māori Council. Legislation, practices and policies relating to the formulation and provision of legal aid services and other funding in civil proceedings before the courts of general jurisdiction. This includes applications to the High Court for recognition of customary rights and title under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011. The claimants allege that these Crown actions fail to allow Māori to pursue alleged breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi and related claims.
