Date of SOC: 27 Aug 08

Claimant: Mira Norris and Marina Fletcher
Lodged on behalf of: Hapu o Whangarei Terenga Paraoa
Concerning: This claim is lodged by Mira Norris and Marina Fletcher on behalf of themselves and Hapu o Whangarei Terenga Paraoa. The claim concerns blocks of land known as Opau and Hihiaua and the foreshore and seabed of Whangarei Harbour. The claimants allege that the Crown alienated land from the Maori through the "eminent domain" in 1879 and the operation of the Native Land Court. The claimants also allege that the Crown has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi in regards to its failure to guarantee and protect the claimant's tino rangatiratanga over their taonga and facilitate the continuation of tikanga Maori.
