Concerning: The claimant alleges that, in breach of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, Tahawai were prejudicially affected by the Crown’s actions and omissions including: The dispossession of Tahawai lands through a range of means including the old land claims regime, the Native Land Court regime and Crown purchasing practices; Depriving Tahawai of forest resources on their lands; Permitting deforestation, pollution and depletion of sources of rongoā; Environmental management policies and practices that degraded rivers and waterways within Tahawai’s rohe; Depriving Tahawai of some of their wāhi tapu, which were desecrated and destroyed; The subversion of te reo Māori and the decrease of cultural resources; and The depletion of the economic resources and opportunities available to Tahawai.
