The claimant alleges that the Crown has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi by failing to: • Provide assistance to Māori in the form of healthcare for whanau members suffering from mental health including depression; • Provide appropriate assistance to whanau members who suffer from alcohol and drug addictions; • Provide assistance for whanau supporting alcohol and drug addicts in their rehabilitation; • Acknowledge the high incidence of suicide by whanau members; • Provide adequate assistance to whanau members after attempting to commit suicide; • Provide assistance through counselling to whanau after the loss of whanau members through suicide; and • Work with the whanau in decreasing suicide rate.
