Te Tau Ihu (northern South Island) inquiry (Wai 785)


The Waitangi Tribunal has today released a pre-publication version of its report on the Treaty claims of iwi and hapū of Te Tau Ihu (northern South Island). The eight recognised iwi are Ngāti Apa, Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Te Atiawa and Rangitāne. more>>

Whanganui District Inquiry Wai 903 continues in 2008

The Whanganui District Inquiry Wai 903 continues this year with the first hearing week in Whanganui from 10-14 March at Paraweka marae, Pipiriki.

The presiding officer, Judge Carrie Wainwright, says, “We’re looking forward to the next block of hearings in 2008.  Tribunal hearings are open to the public, and we welcome everyone”. more>>

Whanganui Inquiry last Tribunal hearing in 2007

Next week, the Waitangi Tribunal will hold its last Whanganui district inquiry hearing for 2007 in Whanganui and in Taumarunui.

The presiding officer, Judge Carrie Wainwright, says “Whanganui iwi have done a terrific job organising the hearings to date. It’s been an outstanding few weeks. We’re looking forward to the next block of hearings in early 2008”. more>>

Te Tau Ihu (Northern South Island) inquiry (Wai 785)

The Waitangi Tribunal today released its second preliminary report on Te Tau Ihu customary rights (Wai 785). The first preliminary report discussed customary rights in the Northern South Island (Te Tau Ihu) district. This second report considers rights to the south of this, in the area defined by Te Runanga o Ngāi Tahu Act 1996 as the Ngāi Tahu takiwā. more>>

Live broadcast of Waitangi Tribunal hearing in Whanganui

Iwi radio station AWA FM is live broadcasting the new Whanganui District Inquiry (Wai 903) in Whanganui this week.

Judge Wainwright, Presiding Officer on the Whanganui District Inquiry says "the live broadcast means more New Zealanders can be part of our nation’s history. All Tribunal hearings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to come". more>>

Central North Island inquiry (Wai 1200)

The Waitangi Tribunal has just released a further volume of its big report on Treaty claims in the central North Island region. This inquiry is the largest the Tribunal has ever undertaken, covering more than 120 claims from across the Rotorua, Kaingaroa and Taupo districts. more>>
