Tania Simpson is the chief executive officer of Maori development company Kōwhai Consulting, a director of State-owned enterprise Mighty River Power, and a member of the Ruapēhu, Whanganui, Rangitikei Tourism Major Regional Initiative Project Board. She has a bachelor of arts in Māori from Waikato University and a Master Mātauranga Māori from Te Wānanga o Raukawa. Ms Simpson has held senior policy roles in Government, including with the Housing Corporation, Te Puni Kōkiri, and the Office of Treaty Settlements. She has also held governance positions with Taki Rua Depot Theatre, the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Oparure, is one of the few fully accredited Māori directors with the Institute of Directors, and has won a range of business awards. The Treaty interface between Māori and the Crown is one of the things that Ms Simpson is most passionate about. 'It is a privilege to participate at the forefront of conversations regarding historical redress, documenting claims, capturing the impact of potential Treaty breaches and making recommendations.'
