Basil Morrison

Originally a dairy farmer at Hikutaia (where his family still farm), Basil Morrison has served in local government since January 1971. Starting as a councillor on the Ohinemuri County Council, he became chairman in 1983 and held that position till 1989, when he became the inaugural mayor of the Hauraki District Council. Mr Morrison retired from that job in 2004, but that same year he was elected to the Waikato Regional Council, retiring from there in 2007. He was elected president of Local Government New Zealand in November 2000, serving there until he retired in July 2008. Currently, Mr Morrison is chair of the Commonwealth Forum Board in London. He also sits on the New Zealand Conservation Authority and the board of Landcorp Farming and chairs the board of trustees of New Zealand Local Government Superannuation.

Mr Morrison was appointed to the Tribunal in 2008. He currently lives in Paeroa.
